Organizational framework

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports countries in ensuring sustainable food and agriculture and increasing the resilience of rural livelihoods. FAO aims to make the world’s food and agriculture systems more resilient to the impacts of climate change through adaptation and mitigation measures.

The FAO Representation in Mauritania supports the government in several agricultural and rural development initiatives by working together to make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more productive and sustainable by adopting inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems and increasing the resilience of livelihoods to climate threats and crises.

Hierarchical position

The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Mauritania, under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer and the technical supervision of the Senior Technical Officer of the project.

Area of ​​specialization

Rural/Agricultural Development, Environment, Social Sciences, Fisheries Sciences, or in a field related to the activities of the Organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide technical and administrative support for the implementation of portfolio projects, including monitoring their progress, identifying difficulties encountered, and reporting relevant information to management;
Contribute to the preparation, logistical organization and monitoring of training, awareness-raising or consultation workshops in the various wilayas, including support for the organization of events;
Support the planning and execution of field missions (monitoring, evaluation, logistics, etc.) by providing logistical and technical support, including the preparation of reports and minutes of the activities carried out;

Draft consultants’ ToRs and concept notes for activities
Draft official correspondence, technical reports, minutes, speeches and other strategic documents, ensuring editorial quality and consistency of content;
Contribute to the analysis and improvement of administrative and programmatic procedures by identifying gaps and formulating recommendations;
Participate in the capitalization of good practices, the updating of beneficiary databases, and the electronic archiving of project documents;
Support the preparation of periodic reviews (monthly, quarterly, annual) and the collection of data necessary for project reporting;

Carry out any other relevant tasks that may be assigned to him/her within the framework of the proper functioning of the office and the implementation of projects.
FAO Standards and Guidelines:

Liaison with the OCC will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, harmonization of messaging and appropriate review and approval processes.

APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Minimum conditions to be met

University degree (minimum Engineer or Master) in the field of rural/agricultural development, environment, social sciences, fisheries sciences, or in a field related to the activities of the Organization;
2 years of experience in the field of planning / programming / budgeting for projects and programs, similar experience or experience related to the field sought;
Working knowledge of French (level C),
Be a national of Mauritania.
